"Circadian"
Origin (from Latin):
"Circa" — meaning about or approximately
"Diem" — meaning day.
Definition:
“being, having, characterized by, or occurring in approximately 24-hour periods or cycles”.
Circadian rhythms are the body’s built-in 24-hour clocks that help regulate the timing of our biological processes in sync with the natural world.
Extensive research shows that circadian rhythm disruption is linked to virtually all serious chronic diseases and many acute conditions throughout the human lifespan — ranging from mood swings and ADHD, to arthritis and alzheimer’s (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12).
By realigning our lifestyles to the circadian rhythms, we can bring our bodies back into balance with nature — helping to alleviate the symptoms of these illnesses.
Circadian biology is the science of how these internal clocks shape our daily functioning and how living in sync with them supports health and happiness.
Circadian processes operate in every cell, tissue, organ, and system throughout our bodies. These rhythms influence hunger, metabolism, body temperature, and the production of hormones and neurotransmitters.
They also regulate the functions of our heart, muscles, stress response and immune system, as well as playing a critical role in aging by governing cellular recycling, repair, and replacement.
From infancy and childhood to adolescence, adulthood, and old age, maintaining a healthy circadian rhythm is essential for all aspects of our well-being (13).
Impacts On Young People
Scientists are also pointing to just how important circadian rhythms are during key stages of childhood and adolescent development.
Recent research has shown that when these natural rhythms are disrupted, it can increase the risk of short- and long-term issues like problems with thinking and focus, low mood, tiredness, anxiety, sleep struggles, and even substance use (14, 15).

Our Published Schools Research
In early 2024, Daniel White (our Co-Founder) conducted a study where he provided provided circadian health interventions (education and blue light blocking glasses) to over 500 secondary students across seven UK schools.
The results showed significant improvements in sleep quality, alertness, focus, and emotional well-being, using simple, low-cost circadian health interventions (such as our education sessions and sleep tools).
